I did not developed the robot all by myself, I used it for my own experiments and tests when I was working on my PhD and I developed software that can be used on it.

The robot you see in the picture is the iCub (http://wiki.icub.org/wiki/Main_Page). It is an Italian research robot which is the results of years of developments initiated in 2005 and still ongoing. Several UK and European research institutions developed a little part of the robot: the head, the hands, the sensors, the software that moves all the components etc. All the software is openly downloadable (open source) and technical documentation should be easily available too. You cannot develop a robot of such complexity all by yourself, you need extensive knowledge of mechanics, hardware and software design and up to date awareness of the latest robotics research results which is normally distributed across many people working together.
