      If with “built” you mean “screwed together metal parts and print electronic circuits on a board” I would have to say no. If you meant “design and program the software that moves the physical parts and processes the data from the sensors” then my answer is yes. In the past I also had to coordinate and guide the efforts of other researchers and scientists who were building the physical parts of the robot to make sure they will look as I would expect for the software to work.

      To physically build a robot, you need to be a mechanical and/or electronic engineer (some universities offer degrees in mechatronic engineer which does both and is one of the hardest subjects in engineering). As my university major was on software engineering, I don’t have (yet) an knowledge broad enough of the topic to do it myself
