• Question: Is there anything you would change about the job that you have?

      Not much really, I guess having a permanent job would improve my situation as most researchers are contract based.

      I think I would love to concentrate even more on coding, that is currently not possible, but I know I can grow into that role eventually. The beauty of working in a startup is that you are a lot more flexible

      I would personally like to get more directly involved into academic research and spending more time exploring how the latest research can be used for a commercial product used by many people, rather than “just” making sure that the product is functional and efficient. This is normally the job of a research engineer and it usually requires a PhD (the technical knowledge you develop as software engineer helps too but is not usually required), so hopefully won’t be long until then. I wouldn’t mind get on some more project management work: planning when things should be finished, how work should be divided etc. but for that I assume it is required a bit more practical experience than study

      I would have to agree with Greg on this one. I am also on a contract and getting a permanent job in research is quite hard.
